60 Seconds to Serenity
Short circuit the chronic and undesirable stress response
Cheryl Good Zavagno, MAT, CAEH
Daily stress is an inevitable part of being alive. Good stress such as exercise, a project deadline, or a new relationship can move you into action, sharpen your reaction time, and provide moments of insight and motivation. Stress that is chronic and unrelieved can manifest as shortened breath, headache, heart palpitations, inability to problem solve, anxiety, and can ultimately lead to a weakened immune system and disease. Current brain research supports these reactions to stress. Recognize your stress so you can employ strategies to short circuit the chronic and undesirable stress response. Simple techniques that can quickly signal your body to relax instead of moving into a fight-or-flight response and include breathwork, sound healing, essential oils for relaxation, and visualizations for rapid stress reduction. These 60-second shifts of body/brain consciousness can be used immediately and can be shared with others.
