Fencing is an elegant, prestigious, and competitive sport. Using a foil, start with the engarde—ready stance—and use basic footwork, simple attacks, parries—defense—and simple tactics. Stretching and movement prepares you for fencing friendly bouts.
Fencing is more than a sport in how it benefits you. It increases anaerobic fitness, builds strength and endurance, increases balance and coordination, and emphasizes agility and alertness. The benefits also include increased mental agility, reduction of stress, and increased focus, clarity, and mindfulness.
Your fitness and stamina gradually improves. You do not need to be athletic to fence, although it can help. Rules and history of fencing are covered as the class progresses. Please bring work or gardening glove, or a light winter glove. The rest of the equipment is provided. Wear comfy clothes and white soled gym shoes. No Crocs, Uggs, or flip flops.
